The Government of India, along with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti, allocates these funds in two installments through the Ministry of Finance based on the fifteenth finance commission's recommendation to the states for providing clean drinking water to villagers.
As per the 11th Schedule of the Constitution, Panchayats are responsible for 29 subjects, including sanitation, water, domestic waste, human waste, and rural markets.
To realize Gandhiji's vision of Swarajya and Indian democracy reaching every level of society, the Government of India is directly providing grants from the Fifteenth Finance Commission to Panchayati Raj Institutions and Rural Local Bodies, transforming rural local governance.
This strategic financial empowerment is transforming local governance, enhancing accountability, and fostering self-reliance at the village level.
