The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to appoint a new national president in January 2025, sources indicated on Friday.

These sources revealed that the election of BJP's mandal presidents will be finalized by the end of December 2024, and the election of state presidents will conclude by January 15, 2025.

Presently, JP Nadda holds the position of BJP national president, a role he has occupied since 2019.

In addition, he serves as the Union Health Minister and previously held the Health Minister position in the BJP government from 2014 to 2019.

Under his leadership, the party contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and various assembly elections. He is also a Rajya Sabha member representing Gujarat.

The BJP is now advancing towards organizational elections, with preparations in place to elect new presidents from the booth level to the national level.

As has always been the case, the first elections will be held to the local committees of the party, followed by elections to the mandal, district, regional and state committees. The elected president at each level will select his team.

This process is completed step by step, and once the elections are completed in half of the states, the process of electing the national president begins.

After the new national president is selected, he selects the team of officials of his office. The entire process takes about two months.

JP Nadda

The BJP's national president is restricted to two consecutive three-year terms.

This amendment was introduced in 2012 when the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) wanted Nitin Gadkari to serve a second term as president.

However, at the last minute, Rajnath Singh replaced Gadkari and held the position until 2014.

Amit Shah subsequently assumed the role of BJP president, with JP Nadda holding the position since January 2020 and recently having his term extended.

Under Nadda's leadership, the party achieved several significant electoral wins. The choice of the new national president will be pivotal for the party's prospects in the forthcoming elections.
