BJP Issues Notice Against Absent MPs in 'One Nation-One Election' Vote

Strong uproar in Parliament after the 'One Nation-One Election' bill was introduced

A significant commotion erupted in Parliament when the 'One Nation-One Election' bill was presented in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Opposition MPs have described the bill as against democracy. Voting was held in the Lok Sabha to approve the bill. A total of 269 MPs voted in favour of the bill while 198 voted against it. However, many BJP MPs were absent during voting. Now the party has issued a show cause notice to him. Those who received notices include big leaders like Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Giriraj Singh. According to Media Reports that it is not clear whether those who were not present had informed the party about their absence due to pre-determined schedule or other reason.

20 BJP MPs were Absent

Union Ministers Giriraj Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Jyotiraditya Scindia and CR Patil were among the 20 MPs who were absent during the voting. Those absent included Shantanu Thakur, Jagdambika Pal, B Y Raghavendra, Vijay Baghel, Udayaraje Bhosale, Jagannath Sarkar, Jayanta Kumar Roy, V Somanna and Chintamani Maharaj.

Bill will Go to Joint Committee

Congress, SP and NCP demanded that the bill be sent to the JPC. The bill will now be referred to a joint committee of Parliament for discussion.

Opposition Parties Protested

Several opposition parties, including the Congress, TMC, Samajwadi Party, Shiv Sena, Uddhav faction, opposed the introduction of the bill in the Lok Sabha. Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav said that those who could not hold assembly elections in 8 states simultaneously, are talking about simultaneous elections in the entire country. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee said that the bill is against the basic spirit of the Constitution.
