Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Tuesday demanded convening of a special session of the Delhi Assembly to present 14 'suppressed' reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) highlighting alleged irregularities under the Arvind Kejriwal-led government. The BJP has been demanding the release of these reports for the last two years.
"CAG reports, which include issues like excise duty on liquor, pollution control, and other financial matters, were presented between 2017-18 and 2021-22 but have not been tabled in the Delhi Assembly," a press statement issued quoting the BJP state president said. Sachdeva also alleged that the Kejriwal government suppressed these reports because, according to his allegations, it could have led to "several financial scams" against the government. "
Further, the BJP leader has demanded that the Delhi Assembly Speaker convene a special session on December 21 to present all the 14 reports. "We demand that the Speaker convene a special session of the Assembly on Saturday, December 21 and direct the Delhi government to table all the 14 CAG reports in the Assembly," Sachdeva said. He also criticised Kejriwal for defending private power distribution companies, a departure from his earlier stand when he had accused the Congress government of misbehaving with power distribution companies during the Commonwealth Games.
Sachdeva said that Kejriwal had ordered an ACB probe against the Sheila Dikshit government in 2014 based on the CAG report, but now the current report is being suppressed under his leadership. Meanwhile, through a series of legal actions, the BJP filed a petition in the Delhi High Court on October 29, seeking to submit the report. The court ordered the Delhi government to respond, and after a delay in submitting the report, the government admitted in the court that it was its responsibility to seek permission from the Lieutenant Governor to submit the report. "We hope that after these 14 CAG reports come out, the government of Atishi Marlena will have no option but to recommend a probe against the previous Arvind Kejriwal government," the BJP statement quoted Sachdeva as saying.
