According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature was recorded at 9 degrees Celsius in Safdarjung and 6.3 degrees Celsius in Palam. A thin layer of fog enveloped parts of the city, with the morning chill persisting till around 7 pm. The increase in minimum temperatures is local, due to changing wind conditions, with no significant change over most parts of northwest India.

Patiala, Karnal, Rohtak, Delhi, Sikar, Alwar and Phalodi are the only remote places in northwest India where temperatures have increased by more than 2 degrees Celsius.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI in Delhi was measured at 277 at 7 am on Friday. An AQI between 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor, and 401-500 severe. In Jammu and Kashmir, Sonamarg is covered in a blanket of snow as the region has been experiencing heavy snowfall. In Rajasthan, people are forced to get heat from bonfires due to drop in temperature. Meanwhile, cold wave conditions are expected in isolated pockets over Rajasthan (December 12-16), Punjab (December 12-16), Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh (December 12-16), Saurashtra and Kutch (December 12), Delhi (December 12-13) and Jammu and Kashmir regions (December 13-16).
