A special session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly will begin on December 7. BJP MLA Kalidas Kolambkar will take oath as Pro-tem Speaker of the Assembly today after the formation of the new government. The nine-time MLA will be administered the oath of office by Governor C P Radhakrishnan at 1 pm. After this, Kolambkar will administer oath to the newly elected 288 MLAs. The election of the 15th Speaker of the Legislative Assembly will be held on December 9. After this, the Mahayuti government led by CM Fadnavis will seek the vote of confidence.
Earlier on December 5, Devendra Fadnavis sworn in as Chief Minister and Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar as Deputy Chief Ministers. On November 23, the 13th day of the election results, the Maharashtra CM could be sworn in. Shinde, who became Deputy CM after much persuasion, is the second leader of the state who has become Deputy CM from CM.
NCP leader Ajit Pawar became Deputy CM for the sixth time. He is the first leader from Maharashtra to be Deputy CM in the Congress, Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi governments.
After taking over as Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis said that the ministers will be sworn in before the winter session of the Assembly. Their portfolios will be given. He said that the Speaker will decide whether the post of Leader of the Opposition will be shown in the Assembly or not. Our roles have changed, but our direction has not changed. The cabinet has been decided, and not much will be changed.
