Counting Begins for Maharashtra, Jharkhand Elections and Bypolls Today

Counting of votes in Maharashtra and Jharkhand begins at 8 am today

By-Election Result Today: Ahead of the counting of votes for the 288 assembly seats to be held on November 20, pictures emerged from various counting centres in Maharashtra on Saturday morning.

The counting of votes is expected to begin at 8 am today. A counting centre in Nagpur South West, where Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Maha Vikas Aghadi's Praful Vinodrao Gudadde (Congress) are contesting.

Ahead of the counting for Maharashtra elections 2024, Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate from Wadala Shradha Jadhav said, "The results will come today. Our victory is certain, you will see Maha Vikas Aghadi form the government.

Earlier, leaders of the ruling Mahayuti and opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) exuded confidence of their respective victories ahead of the counting of votes. Counting of votes has also been made for Assembly elections in Jharkhand and by-elections to 48 Assembly seats in 15 states and two Lok Sabha seats.

The counting of votes will begin at 8 am and trends are expected to emerge in Maharashtra and Jharkhand within the next two hours. In Maharashtra, the Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP, is locked in a tough fight with the MVA, which includes the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP).

Polling was held on Wednesday for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly, which saw a voter turnout of 66.05%, as against around 61% in the 2019 assembly elections.

Election Commission Paid a Lot of Attention to Maharashtra

Mahayuti and MVA leaders see the increased turnout as a positive sign for their respective alliances. State Chief Electoral Officer S Chokkalingam praised the efforts to increase voter participation.

"This time, the Election Commission of India paid a lot of attention and time to Maharashtra. Every strategy was conceptualized and implemented with high precision.

As a result, a large number of new names were added to the electoral rolls between the parliamentary elections and the current election. Efforts were made to make voting easier, especially in places like Mumbai which faced challenges during the parliamentary election. This time everyone appreciated the arrangements.

"A lot of work has been done. The Election Commission thanks all those who voted to create history. We achieved a 5% increase in turnout.About 6 lakh officers and employees worked tirelessly so that voters could easily cast their votes.

In the Mahayuti alliance, the BJP is contesting 148 seats, the Shiv Sena (led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde) on 80 and the NCP (led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar) on 52 seats.

Six additional seats are being contested by Mahayuti candidates. In the MVA alliance, Congress is contesting 102 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) 96 and NCP (SP) 86 seats.

By-Election Result Today

The Samajwadi Party and smaller MVA allies are contesting two seats each. In the 2019 elections, the BJP had won 105 seats, the undivided Shiv Sena 56, the undivided NCP 54, the Congress 44, Independents 13 and others 16 seats. In Jharkhand, the first phase of polling was held on November 13 in 43 of the 81 assembly seats.

Among the components of the India block, the JMM is contesting on 43 seats, the Congress on 30, the RJD on six and the CPI(ML) on four seats. The BJP is contesting on 68 seats, AJSU on 10, JD(U) on two and LJP on one seat.

In the last assembly elections, JMM had won 30 seats, BJP 25 and Congress 16. Several states, including Uttar Pradesh, also witnessed a close fight in bypolls, where nine assembly seats went to polls on Wednesday.

By-elections were held in 48 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats in 15 states. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra made her electoral debut in Wayanad, Kerala. The by-elections were held in two phases.
