Is Trump a Peace Ambassador or a Catalyst for War?

Aakash Chopra

In January this year, Donald Trump returned to power calling himself a 'peace ambassador', but now he has taken steps to involve America in the complex conflict between Iran and Israel. Since taking office, Trump has not been able to bring peace to the Middle East. Now he is leading a region which is on the verge of a bigger war and America is an active participant in it. Some leaders and prominent personalities of Pakistan have asked the government to reconsider its decision to recommend President Donald Trump's name for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize after the US attack on three nuclear centers of Iran.

The government took a surprise step on Friday and announced that it would recommend Trump's name for this prestigious award for his peace efforts during the recent India-Pakistan conflict. The recommendation letter signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has been sent to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee in Norway, but objections have started coming about this decision after the US attacked Iran's Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz nuclear centers.

Trump's recent meeting and dinner with Pakistan's army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir 'so pleased the Pakistani rulers' that they recommended the US president be nominated for a Nobel Prize. 'Since Trump is no longer a potential peacemaker but a leader who has deliberately waged an illegal war, the Pakistani government should now reconsider and revoke its recommendation of his nomination for the Nobel Prize.' Trump has claimed that he played a key role in preventing the Indo-Pak war, while India has officially rejected this claim.

The Indian government said that any significant peace efforts between Pakistan and India were due to Indian diplomacy and international pressures, and not due to Trump's initiative. Pakistan even proposed to give Trump the Nobel Prize, which seems like a political joke because there were no concrete facts about Trump's role. If President Trump is really a 'peace ambassador', then why are attacks still going on in Gaza, Palestine? Why was he unable to end the Russia-Ukraine war? This was Trump's main election issue. What has been the role of America as a warmonger and President Trump himself in countries like Iraq, Syria, Libya, Lebanon, Yemen, Afghanistan etc.? Take the current Israel-Iran war. Fierce attacks have been going on for the last 10 days. Nearly 700 people have died. More than 12 military generals of Iran have been killed. Nuclear scientists have also been killed. How many buildings and The establishments have been destroyed, their data is not available yet.

President Trump says that he will not ask Israel to leave the war. What kind of peace is this? Trump is changing his statement again and again. America is also involved in the war and President Trump has said that a decision will be taken after two weeks. He has been claiming that Iran is making a nuclear bomb, while Tulsi Gabbard, the National Intelligence Director in his government, has said that Iran's nuclear program was stopped in 2003 itself, so how can Iran make a nuclear bomb? When Trump rejected her statement, Tulsi also had to give clarification. If Trump is really a 'peace ambassador' then what does he have to do with the nuclear bomb? His efforts should be to end the war immediately, but in view of America's intentions, Russia and China have to be warned that America should not try to enter the war.

Trump took many decisions in favor of Israel on the Palestine issue, including recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and imposing economic sanctions against the Palestinians. This further increased tension in the Middle East. While humanity says that he should have spoken on the massacre of Palestinian innocents, he did not remain neutral and kept threatening Palestine. In 2011, military intervention was done in Libya due to which the government there fell and the country became unstable. This action can also be considered against his policy of peace. There were conflicts with many countries during Trump's rule, some important examples of which are:

Trump started a trade war against China which had a negative impact on the global economy. He imposed high tariffs on many countries, especially European countries, Japan and Canada. This policy increased instability in global trade. President Trump's pain for the Nobel Prize is being expressed again and again that no matter how much he does, he will not get the Nobel Peace Prize. His restlessness also intensifies because in 2009, the then US President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Donald Trump's desire to get the Nobel Peace Prize has received mixed but mostly negative reactions in diplomatic circles and human rights organizations around the world. Analysts from countries like Britain, Germany and Canada believe That Trump's track record is full of conflict and confrontation. Human rights activists have called Trump's "Nobel wish" a "joke with international peace". Social media in India has also been flooded with memes and sarcasm, where users called Trump's Indo-Pak peace claims a 'political gimmick'.
