In the Union Budget 2025 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana has been launched, which aims to improve the status of agriculture in 100 districts with low productivity, moderate crop intensity, and below-average credit access. Announced in the Union Budget 2025 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the scheme will be implemented in partnership with state governments and will focus on enhancing rural prosperity through existing agricultural schemes and special measures.
What is the purpose of this program?
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the programme is inspired by the success of the Aspirational Districts Programme and aims at upliftment of farmers in underdeveloped agricultural areas. The scheme will focus on five key areas, increasing agricultural productivity by adopting better farming techniques, crop diversification to ensure long-term benefits and promotion of sustainable farming practices. To develop post-harvest storage facilities at panchayat and block level to reduce crop wastage, improve irrigation facilities to increase agricultural production and facilitate access to long-term and short-term credit to farmers to invest in better agricultural practices.
Improve agricultural sustainability
The scheme is expected to benefit 1.7 crore farmers in these districts by improving their income and overall farm sustainability. Along with this, the government has announced the Rural Prosperity and Resilience Programme, which will be implemented in collaboration with the state governments. The initiative is designed to tackle unemployment in agriculture by focusing on skill, investment and technology adoption to strengthen the rural economy. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the Rural Prosperity and Resilience Programme will be launched in partnership with the states. It will address unemployment in agriculture through skill, investment, technology and strengthening the rural economy.
Employment opportunities will be available
The main objective of the programme is to create adequate employment opportunities in rural areas so that migration to urban centres becomes an option rather than a necessity. It will especially benefit rural women, young farmers, marginal and small farmers, rural youth and landless households, thereby ensuring their economic stability. With these initiatives, the government aims to promote inclusive growth in agriculture, promote rural development, and provide better opportunities to farmers, making the sector more sustainable and resilient.
